Did you ever want an opportunity to show your coding skills WHILE helping the world DEFEAT COVID-19 and RETURN to normalcy? Well, here’s your chance:

Teens Take On COVID is a student-led hackathon created with the goal of bringing together teen coders and helping them create a software or hardware solution that addresses some of the current AND future challenges related to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Participants (must be a student that is 19 or younger) must create a production-ready solution or a scalable prototype/concept using ANY technology, software, hardware, or design tools. You project must include the challenges found in at least one of the FOCUS AREAS:

  1. Future
  2. Education
  3. Community

We will PROVIDE the following to EVERYONE:

  • Free resources and technologies for creating your project
  • Mentors from IBM and echoAR
  • Workshops on AR/VR, Debugging, and more!
  • Support through our Slack

Eligibility

ELIGIBILITY

  • Participants: Individuals (19 or younger); Teams (up to 7 people)
  • Location: Any State, Any Country

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Submission form 
    1. Submit your project here on Devpost before the deadline and be sure to answer all of the questions on the submission form. Submission (including video/code links) are editable until the submission deadline.  This and other information related to your submission will be treated consistent with the Devpost privacy policy.
  2. Video 
    1. Upload a video walk-through your solution via YouTube or Vimeo, and include the link on your Devpost page for your project.
  3. File
    1. Upload a file containing a GitHub or other code repo link, pictures of your hardware solution, designs, or whatever you think is necessary for the judges

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

  1. You can use any technology you want, whether it’s software, hardware, or design
  2. The project must target one of the focus areas

  • To be eligible for this prize, you must use the echoAR platform
  • How can you use the echoAR AR/VR Tools provided to you to help the world beat the crisis?

  • What are the ways that technology can be used to ease us back into our daily routines and lives?

Education

  • How can teachers continue to communicate and relay learning to students?
  • How can students with a lack of internet access continue to learn?
  • How can entire school systems support their students?
Community
  • How can your local business stay afloat, collaborate, and move parts of their business online?
  • How can friends, family, and neighbors communicate and stay connected during these times?
  • How can public services become digitized for local governments?

    How well does the project target the focus areas (future, education, community)? Is the project solving a real problem?
  • Time
    How quickly were you able to create a solution? Is this a project you've already worked on before the hackathon, or have you started during the hackathon?
  • Project Complexity
    Is the project addressing a challenge in a complex manner? Did you use an advanced API, create an exceptional algorithm, or use complicated code?
  • Creativity
    Does this project take on a focus area with a unique approach?
  • Potential Impact
    Will the project be able to reach a point of completion from a technical perspective. Does it have the potential for positive impact right now or in the future?
